Lazy Beds as they are called on Skye were created by carrying seaweed and cattle waste to manure the land sufficiently to be able to grow potatoes. Over time and through many generations of this continued cultivation and the building up of manure, raised beds were formed, which today are not used but on Skye they have become a feature of the landscape in crofting townships. Today they are invariably covered with bracken.
